STORY

Arielle Shore

Picture
I grew up amongst artists, woodworkers, makers, and shakers deep in the woods of New England. "Creating" was always a part of my identity, my story, and my dreams for the future. I was fascinated with the way art was in itself a mental and metaphorical language. Making art was a visual representation of my deepest "self" and the process of making it was cathartic, as if releasing a part of me into the tangible world was healing and illuminating.

I studied and obtained degrees in Expressive Arts Therapy and Psychology, from Endicott College in Beverly, MA. I then went on to receive my Masters of Arts in Teaching from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR. I was constantly in awe of the relationship between the act of creating and the way it could act as a healing modality.

After receiving my MAT, my husband and I moved from Oregon to Maui, HI to pursue our dreams of adventure and island living. I worked as a K-12 Art Teacher at Maui Preparatory Academy before leaving to care for our newborn daughter in 2018. During my time on Maui, I started taking Jewelry and Metalsmithing classes and totally fell in love with the process of making art that seemed more permanent, the transitions and limitless qualities of shifting metals, and the idea of making jewelry that felt sacred and special. In late 2019, we moved back to the Pacific Northwest, when we found out we were expecting our son. We landed in Wenatchee Valley in Central Washington, and feel so incredibly lucky to call this beautiful place home!

The idea for Rings and Rituals has been heavy on my mind and heart for years, I wanted to give others the opportunity to learn to make their own special jewelry. For me, jewelry is not simply a way to adorn myself, but serves as little relics paying homage to meaningful people or experiences in my life. My wedding band, rings that represent each of my children, gold bracelets passed down from my grandmother, each piece has a story, and a prayer infused into the metal. I want you to be a part of your jewelry's story, I want the magic of your hands to shift it into reality. I want you to experience being the maker, the shaper, and the creator of our own significant piece of beauty.

Honoring the process of making something meaningful by HAND

I have always cherished handmade items, because I know their story, whether it's a pie from a neighbor or a mug my Grandmother made, handmade things have a soul and an essence that is full of depth and sincerity. I want your experience making jewelry at Rings and Rituals to feel like you are releasing a vision from your mind into the most beautiful, significant, and sentimental piece of jewelry you have ever worn. I want your creation to have your story and fingerprints embedded into the pores of it's metal.

Creating jewelry is pure alchemy, a ritual or ceremony of transforming emotions and elements into the tangible.

 The Process
Wax Carving & Ancient Sand Casting

Wax carving and the ancient craft of sand casting, are both processes that lend themselves to be organic in nature, and thus tend to produce "imperfectly, perfect" results.

One of the most alluring benefits of hand carving and hand casting jewelry is the ability to truly customize the texture and surface design of the creation.

You can utilize heirloom textiles to create pattern/tactile effects. You can carve more organic shapes to fit specifically around other rings. You can create unique forms that can vary from smooth to rough. You can even add in some sentimental sand (or dried flowers) from a favorite beach, river shore, or mountaintop to the casting process to give a beautiful and unexpected surface grain.
